Get named by AI assistants
GEO (generative engine optimization) and AEO (answer engine optimization) are the work of getting your property named inside AI answers: the recommendation ChatGPT gives when a guest asks where to stay in your town. It runs on the same evidence Google uses, assembled so a language model can quote it.

Who this is for
- You asked ChatGPT for the best guesthouse in your town and it named four competitors and not you.
- You have good reviews on three platforms, but they say different things about what you actually offer.
- Your website describes your property in marketing language that contains no extractable facts.
Six things, all of them concrete
AI visibility baseline
Twenty real guest queries run through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, logged with who gets named and what those properties have in common.
Citable content structure
Pages rewritten answer-first, in self-contained paragraphs, because that is the shape a model lifts a quote from. Bury the answer in paragraph four and you lose the citation.
Entity consistency
Your property name, description and facts made identical across your site, GBP, OTAs, TripAdvisor and directories. Contradictory facts make a model hedge, and hedging means it names somebody else.
Structured data for extraction
Hotel, Restaurant, Menu, FAQPage and Review markup, so the facts a model needs are machine-readable rather than inferred from prose.
Third-party presence
The sources these models actually cite: TripAdvisor, local guides, regional press, travel blogs. Being right on your own site is not enough on its own.
Monthly AI visibility report
The same twenty queries re-run every month, so you can see whether you are gaining ground and which changes moved it.
What happens, and when
Nobody can guarantee an AI citation. There is no submission form and no ranking dashboard. What is controllable is whether the evidence exists, is consistent, and is quotable. Properties that fix all three usually start appearing within two to four months.
- Week 1-2
Baseline log across four assistants. This is the number everything else is measured against.
- Week 3-8
Content restructuring, schema, and entity cleanup across third-party sources.
- Month 3+
Monthly re-runs. Citations tend to appear in steps rather than on a smooth curve.
GEO & AEO: common questions
What is the difference between GEO and AEO?
AEO (answer engine optimization) is about being the source of a direct answer: featured snippets, voice results, AI Overviews. GEO (generative engine optimization) is about being named inside generated text from ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini. In practice the work overlaps heavily, because both reward clear answers, consistent facts, structured data and third-party sources that corroborate you.
Does ChatGPT actually recommend specific hotels?
Yes. Ask it for accommodation in a specific town and it will name properties, usually with a sentence on why. When it browses, it pulls from live sources; when it does not, it draws on what it learned in training. Both routes reward the same thing: a property described consistently and factually in many places.
How do I know if AI assistants are recommending my property?
You test it, on a schedule. Pick twenty queries a guest would realistically type, run them through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews once a month, and log every business named. There is no analytics dashboard for this yet, which is exactly why the log is worth keeping.
Is GEO just SEO with a new name?
It shares most of its foundation: structured data, reviews, consistent entity information, authoritative mentions. What differs is the target. You are optimising to be quoted rather than clicked, and that changes how you write. Self-contained paragraphs that answer the question in the first sentence get lifted. Narrative marketing copy does not.
How much does AI search optimization cost?
GEO and AEO are included in the $1,200/month Full Search tier, and the AI visibility baseline is part of the $450 audit. I do not sell it standalone, because it only works on top of a site that is technically sound and a business whose details are consistent everywhere.
